The show starts off with Funkadiba (Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi) with a track sounding like they were listening to the Bowie track ‘Fame’ as they collaborated, then hits on the 2015 LP by The Pop Group, Jah Wobble covering the signature P.I.L. song, a track from Victims – the only non-Misfits band on the Plan 9 label, and a bunch of rock tracks, with 3 non-rock ones at the end of the show.

Starts with a few songs inspired by the Johnny Thunders documentary film Looking For Johnny, including pre-Only Ones band England’s Glory with the early version of ‘City of Fun’. The Dream Syndicate divide parts 1 and 2 with a track from their very first release on Down There, re-released as a 2×7″ on Blue Rose. Part 2 sees six tracks from the Soul Jazz comp ‘Punk 45: Extermination Nights in the Sixth City’ as well.

Psychemagik track uses David Crosby vocal of 1971 track ‘Orleans’ from ‘If Only I Could Remember My Name’ – nice! We stay chilled with Coyote’s track before the jolting vocal of The Pop Group, which serves as great prep for tracks by electric eels and Nots. The pop perfection of Chia Pet leads us into the electronic portion of the show, which includes a track from India re-edited by Boston legend Brother Cleve.

A fair amount of reggae-influenced tracks. New Age Steppers bring the On-U Sound post-punk sound to their reggae, with Ari Up vocals. Their collaboration with Creation Rebel moves firmly into dub. Jamaican Laurel Aitken gives us a 1978 track that pulls you right in, and Black Booby does a reggae re-edit. Peru’s Traffic Sound bring us to rock with a great cover of a 1968 Eric Burdon And The Animals track.

The Gulls Window Circus experience is to find the common thread between all the pieces, so listen and enjoy the ride.

There are plenty of Gulls Window Circus shows that start off or have a few rock songs buried within – this show flips that and has 2 non-rock songs at the start, before progressing to a rock show, with highlights such as Pajama Slave Dancers America cover, a 1973 Foghat track (classic!), a 1975 Pavlov’s Dog track, then to 1977, Mink Deville exhibiting the wide-reaching sounds of NYC CBGB ground zero, and 1981 LA with Gleaming Spires (bassist and drummer of ‘Whomp That Sucker’-era Sparks), then to 1984 late period Edward Ball (The Times).

Holger Czukay project Les Vampyrettes, Seattle 1988 band Vampire Lezbos from the highly-overlooked Soul Jazz comp ‘No Seattle – Forgotten Sounds Of The North-West Grunge Era 1986-97’ (+ 3 more tracks, including shoegaze from Kill Sybil), more shoegaze from Japanese band The Beauty from their only and only release in 2012, Sunshine Jones re-edit of 1975 Jefferson Starship – there is a lot here to love: dig in!

Brooklyn trio Archie Pelago start off with a chilled jazzy track. Biologia (Joe Nunez) give us a modern disco track from their sole release, a 7″. Rx (a collaboration between Benedek and Delroy Edwards) continue with boogie sounds, as do Amsterdam, Netherlands based L33. At that point we start a good and proper rock show with some high-tailed glam (Brett Smiley, Bonnie St. Claire, Apple Pie & Custard), some NYC goodness (The Brats, ImpLOG, Chandra ), German pop on the awesome Firestation Tower label (Hot Rain, Monostars, The Vermont Sugar House, Shy) and who-knows-where-from reggae artist Sheila Rickards – there has been a private detective trying to find her and a documentary about it filmed but not released.

The first hour is a mostly-rock show, with a Stones cover by Pagans, then soon-after ‘Ode To a Stone’ from the Soul Jazz comp ‘Inner City Beat! Detective Themes, Spy Music And Imaginary Thrillers’. O’ Level and Jook keep us on track before we switch genres with the excellent Quad Throw Salchow track. The second hour is an electronic show. The second hour starts off with African artist but then moves to Quilla’s magical track in the Ricardo Villalobos remix form. I especially like the Solid State track near the end.

This originally aired as a pledge show on WZBC. It is a rock show in the beginning, a hip hop show at the end. The show starts with 1980 Don Christensen (drummer in The Contortions) as ImpLOG, then 1967 David Bowie covering Velvet Underground. James Williamson covers a 1977 Stooges gem with Austin TX artist Carolyn Wonderland, then two NYC bands come next. In the second hour, 7″s from the Originals label are sandwiched by an Athens Of The North 7″ at the start and the 1983 Bileo track at the end.
