A show that flits effortlessly between rock and non-rock, a marriage summed up in the collaboration between Fripp & Eno. On the non-rock side, we have 1976 Ghana Tony Sarfo & The Funky Afrosibi, 2014 Torn Hawk (Luke Wyatt), 2014 Nicholas Jaar (as Ancient Astronaut). On the rock side, 1984 Game Theory (Scott Miller) cover The Box Tops and 2002 Joey Ramone covers Louis Armstrong.

English disco artist John Schroeder opens this show with his sole release as Hi Voltage Orchestra from 1979 – very nice… US DJ Osmose does a re-edit of James Brown ‘Down And Out In New York City’ on a Smokecloud 12″. There is a 2012 track from Detroit’s Theo Parrish follows. A jazzy MadDisco re-edit. Walter Whisenhunt (promoter for James Brown, discoverer and eventual spouse of Gloria Ann Taylor), collaborates with her on a 70s funk/soul monster. Back to Detroit with Rick Wilhite. Then back to 1981 for Arnies In Love, then forward to 1984 for Pink And Black. That’s just the first hour – explore and enjoy.

Brooklyn trio Archie Pelago start off with a chilled jazzy track. Biologia (Joe Nunez) give us a modern disco track from their sole release, a 7″. Rx (a collaboration between Benedek and Delroy Edwards) continue with boogie sounds, as do Amsterdam, Netherlands based L33. At that point we start a good and proper rock show with some high-tailed glam (Brett Smiley, Bonnie St. Claire, Apple Pie & Custard), some NYC goodness (The Brats, ImpLOG, Chandra ), German pop on the awesome Firestation Tower label (Hot Rain, Monostars, The Vermont Sugar House, Shy) and who-knows-where-from reggae artist Sheila Rickards – there has been a private detective trying to find her and a documentary about it filmed but not released.

The Black Booby re-edit of the Young Americans track ‘Right’ is well-chosen and nice, as is the epic Funkadelic re-edit by Moodymann and Psychemagik’s re-edit of Stanley Shaw ‘Groovy Beat’. These tracks are in good company with lots of other re-edits by some of my favorite artists and labels. Winner!

The first hour is a mostly-rock show, with a Stones cover by Pagans, then soon-after ‘Ode To a Stone’ from the Soul Jazz comp ‘Inner City Beat! Detective Themes, Spy Music And Imaginary Thrillers’. O’ Level and Jook keep us on track before we switch genres with the excellent Quad Throw Salchow track. The second hour is an electronic show. The second hour starts off with African artist but then moves to Quilla’s magical track in the Ricardo Villalobos remix form. I especially like the Solid State track near the end.

Disco/re-edits show that starts in Japan with Cro-Magnon before opening the door to Tadeusz Nalepa in Poland. The prolific Magic Wand Edits series follows. Sydney/London duo Ess O Ess precede another Japanese artist (Altz) before we turn stateside with Am Ko from Chicago. An edit of Lowrell Simon’s ‘Love Massage’ by Floridian Sleazy Mcqueen follows. The sounds is consistent throughout. If you like this style of music, every track will bring delight. I will point you to the Altz track if you want one track to decide the equation.

Show closer N.W. is edited by Dan Tyler of Idjut Boys (as Nad) and is both awesome and encapsulates the sound of this show, though most of the tracks bounce a little more than this one. Amid the re-edits you’ll find Detroit 1977 disco from Mike Theodore and 2014 magic from Peter Hook with Nova Nova. The song you must hear is New Jersey based Joey Anderson’s track. The Jose Manuel pre-dates the primitive future sound On The Corner Records would popularize on the ‘Door To The Cosmos’ comp.
