Soul to NYC proto-synthwave to pub rock to hard rock to spiritual ambient – and that is just the first 5 tracks. A pleasing listen throughout, with one of my all time favorites (Al Tone Edits) coming before the 1980 Lamar Thomas track – nice stuff!

Psychemagik track uses David Crosby vocal of 1971 track ‘Orleans’ from ‘If Only I Could Remember My Name’ – nice! We stay chilled with Coyote’s track before the jolting vocal of The Pop Group, which serves as great prep for tracks by electric eels and Nots. The pop perfection of Chia Pet leads us into the electronic portion of the show, which includes a track from India re-edited by Boston legend Brother Cleve.

Three Irish artists start off this show to honor the fact that it originally aired on St. Patricks Day 2015. Near the end of part 2 we revisit Ireland with Pablo & Shoey. After The Trash Company track the show becomes an electronic/re-edit show, except for the show closer, the incredible Miami soul artist Milton Wright.

A fair amount of reggae-influenced tracks. New Age Steppers bring the On-U Sound post-punk sound to their reggae, with Ari Up vocals. Their collaboration with Creation Rebel moves firmly into dub. Jamaican Laurel Aitken gives us a 1978 track that pulls you right in, and Black Booby does a reggae re-edit. Peru’s Traffic Sound bring us to rock with a great cover of a 1968 Eric Burdon And The Animals track.

A rock show that touches all eras, 60s: Juice, Bob Irwin and the Pluto Walkers, Sly & The Family Stone, 70s: Dr. Feelgood, Suicide, Baby Huey, England’s Glory, Roxy Music, Cheech And Chong, electric eels, 80s: Inflatable Boy Clams, fairly new: all the rest. The Gulls Window Circus experience is to find the common thread between all the pieces, so listen and enjoy the ride.

Electronic show that starts with the reggae-pop of ‘My Love’, which is Neneh Cherry’s recording debut, an ends with Gay Marvine’s Pink Floyd ‘On The Run’ re-edit. In between we have 1965 Evie Sands magic, Gino Bomino’s Ohio Express ‘Chewy Chewy’ re-edit, 1976 post-Neu Klaus Dinger as La Dusseldorf, and lots more.

There are plenty of Gulls Window Circus shows that start off or have a few rock songs buried within – this show flips that and has 2 non-rock songs at the start, before progressing to a rock show, with highlights such as Pajama Slave Dancers America cover, a 1973 Foghat track (classic!), a 1975 Pavlov’s Dog track, then to 1977, Mink Deville exhibiting the wide-reaching sounds of NYC CBGB ground zero, and 1981 LA with Gleaming Spires (bassist and drummer of ‘Whomp That Sucker’-era Sparks), then to 1984 late period Edward Ball (The Times).

A 4 second Marvin Gaye sample becomes a 7:18 track and it’s not a second too long – that is the LTJ Xperience out of Italy. Also excellent stuff from Dutch artist Andre de Saint-Obin, France’s Elli & Jacno, England’s Mock & Toof, and SF’s 40 Thieves and Patrick Cowley. A short but worthy dip.
