An electronic Carl’s living room (vinyl LP tracks played on a real turntable) starts with a Polish artist from the soundtrack to the film Tonight She Comes, moves to Lucrecia Dalt (who I experienced recently at Unsound in Poland and loved), soon moves into African tracks re-edited by several different artists, then goes into Indonesia with Wahono, takes a quick 5 track dip into original underground disco/re-edits, and ends with 2 Ukrainian artists before ending for-real with the appropriately titled ‘Ending’ from the soundtrack to Peter Fonda’s 1971 film The Hired Hand.

Wasn’t exactly what to call this show, so it is tagged as Carl’s living room, international, soul/funk, soundtrack, and electronic. Qualifying as ‘international’ would be Giuliano Sorgini , Trio Balkana and Anni-Frid Lyngstad , ‘soul/funk’ would be Esther Marrow, Curtis Mayfield, Home Boy And The C.O.L., The Prolifics, and Slave, ‘soundtrack’ would be Nico Fidenco and Tangerine Dream, ‘electronic’ would be DYYU∩E, Loveshadow, and MLO & Spacetime Continuum, and Alex Ho. That leaves Miriam Makeba with a Buffalo Springfield cover, Les Baxter And His Orchestra with classic exotica, Smith & Mudd with a contemporary tribute to library music, Scream And Dance with post-punk, and Michael James Pollard, a one-off 7″-only discovery from the 80s.

Carl’s living room series in an electronic show that covers several eras and locales. All vinyl played in real time. Several tracks from the early 00’s (AIR, Zoot Woman, Yoko Mono, Rick Wade) mix with current re-edits (A.L-T., Loose Joints, Dionne Warwick, Marc Roberts), re-discoveries from the past (Angel’o, Carol Williams, Saâda Bonaire, Monoton, Ultravox, Ambient Warrior), and finally a brand new track from A Certain Ratio. The final week in a 3 week series of electronic shows features a track from the ‘Taken On’ LP by Moodymann. There are also some ambient tracks, a re-edit of The Zombies, a Talking Heads outtake, the NYC band Gray that Jean-Michel Basquiat was in (not on this track), and some soul, tropical and lovers rock tracks. Quality is kept high (hey, it’s Gulls Window Circus!) so you should have a happy time listening to this show.

A nice selection of songs and tracks that skirt soul/funk, disco, lovers rock, re-edits and deep house. Everything flows well – I have enjoyed listening to this one! My special fave is the Tavares re-edit, which has been cycling though my head while out on runs (always my best indicator of a track to watch!). Same goes for the re-edit of Marshall Hain (their track Dancing In The City), and the E. Live Ft. Chesta Blake track.
