Genre gumbo stirs this non-rock show, even as one of the artists (Eddie Hazel) is tagged as Psychedelic Rock on discogs. Funk/Soul, World, Jazz-Funk, and Latin Jazz seem to describe most of the artists, but you will hear Reggae. Boogaloo and African sounds and even some prog touches. It is a nice crop, and all of it feels like it belongs together.

A non-rock Gulls Window Circus show that has some electro/beats, some reggae, afrobeat, funk, library music, post-punk and krautrock. The Rootsman track has sure been running through my head all week, as have the Jan Wobble and Earwig tracks. I think the flow from one sound to another goes really well and that you will find much here to love.

Gulls Window Circus returns to un-themed music following last week’s conclusion of the 24-week folk-like/folk-unlike series. Today is a non-rock show. I’ve taken the binary approach or rock/non-rock, so some of the artists here might be more of a grey area, appearing in both depending on the song (I’m thinking of Kalahari Surfers, Ultravox, Bene Gesserit, Fun Boy Three, Moonshake, OMD, and Bryan Ferry). In other areas, Dimitri From Paris brings my first exposure to Jamiroquai in his re-edit, Vibes4YourSoul re-edits Gal Costa, and Carol Douglas gives the first-wave disco treatment to Doors’ Light My Fire.

A non-rock LP tracks show that starts controversially (is it non-rock?) with a track from Roxy Music’s ‘Siren’, and later in the show has a track from Dave Lombardo (drummer of Slayer – can THAT be non-rock!?) – I say yes, and this show is a great place to sit yourself during a Thanksgiving dinner: a decidedly US-centric event, even as it features artists from all over the world [Romain Azzaro, Nikolaienko, Eva Hurychová & Jan Neckář, Zuchy, Pejzaż, Sylvester Levay] and artists the seem from another world altogether [Yves Tumor].
