Rock Gulls Window Circus show that, like show #642, combines punk, art punk (1st had of part 1, 2nd half of part 2), and power pop (2nd half of part 1, 1st half of part 2). My goal was to make it all blend together, and I think you will enjoy 100% of the tracks – many great songs that have thrilled me as I was planning this. The show closes with a seasonal track for this 10/29 show.

Hard rock Gulls Window Circus includes some unlikely candidates (Value Added and Denim [must-hear for the lyrics]), and a lot of oddities such as Alan Vega when he tried a Billy Idol sound in 1985 and Saigon Kick’s Bowie cover, plus Cherie Currie from the one record she did with her twin, the Hendrix-isms of Mahogany Rush, the supergroup that never was (Dead Horse : Derwood Andrews, Rat Scabies, Glen Matlock), and some live magic at the end of the second hour with Mott The Hoople, Beck, Bogert & Appice, and Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express.

Following last weeks live-only WZBC Fundraiser show, this week Gulls Window Circus puts on a rock show with all formats – the first ever digital track on GWC (Boston’s Crow Follow), several CD tracks, including the excellent new Ekphrastics CD on Harriet Records and The Mighty Ions from Boston’s past, and a whole bunch of new vinyl releases and reissues. I had a Yellow Magic Orchestra LP in a Wreckless Eric sleeve and ended up playing a track that wouldn’t have ever come to my mind for this show but worked perfectly. Many moments of joy here, hope you get to hear it all.

Genre gumbo stirs this non-rock show, even as one of the artists (Eddie Hazel) is tagged as Psychedelic Rock on discogs. Funk/Soul, World, Jazz-Funk, and Latin Jazz seem to describe most of the artists, but you will hear Reggae. Boogaloo and African sounds and even some prog touches. It is a nice crop, and all of it feels like it belongs together.
