Today 5-7pm EST on wzbc.org The blurry sound of shoegaze reminds me of the gaussian filter in Photoshop. This show pushes aside the mist to highlight two dozen excellent examples of the sound, from the NYC band The Stargazer Lilies (who evolved out of Soundpool), to Boston artists Violet Nox, Seana Carmody, 27, Swirlies and Sydra. In between we visit Bristol for Movietone, Crescent and Secret Shine, SF for Crawling With Tarts, Scotland for Arab Strap, One Dove and Dot Allison. We also have Julian Cop in his Dope guise, Baltimore artist Linda Smith, Japanese art The Beauty, Sweden with Easy and Germany with Mrs. Wallace. And of course, the king of the gaussian sound, MBV, from Ireland.

Kustomized covering La Peste. Pre-Slapshot Choke in Last Rights. 1978 Plurex Records goodness from Mollesters. Bands I love such as Lefty Lucy, N.O.T.A., Oiler, Pillsbury Hardcore, Raooul (with a song that knocks-off The Knack), and Rich Kids On LSD. Be sure to hear Jolly Mortals ‘Gladiator’, Justice League, King-Kill/33°, The Hard-Ons, Iron Prostate, and Jack Acid. I had forgotten how good late period Hüsker Dü could be. ‘Makes No Sense At All’ has stuck in my head. The Hedonists include a 1993 Spinga (vocalist for SSD). Ill Repute remains my personal fave HC band, and we have 3 tracks here. Every track packs it in, just like the other 3 shows in this series.
